The enigmatic Frilled Shark
The Frilled Shark, Chlamydoselachus anguineus, is a primitive shark species that lives in deep seas. Its sightings are extremely rare and it was considered extinct until 19th century when it was firstly seen alive in Japan. Also in Japan, this January (2007) there was the most famous sighting when some fishermen found a 'strange eel-like fish with razor sharp teeth' swimming near the surface. Unfortunately the shark was very unhealthy and died just a few hours later but the staff of Awashima Marine Park managed to do some pictures and a video that rapidly appeared all over the world. Here they are.
